Laten we eens wat dieper ingaan op deze specifieke kenmerken van outcast plastics:<\/p>\n Outcast plastics passen niet in de reguliere afvalkanalen die we gewoonlijk gebruiken voor huishoudelijke artikelen, vanwege componenten zoals ingebouwde elektronica.<\/p>\n Gerecycleerde kunststoffen zijn vaak afkomstig van commerci\u00eble bronnen en verschijnen bijgevolg meestal in kleinere hoeveelheden, meestal minder dan 20 ton. Door deze verhalen nieuw leven in te blazen en op de voorgrond te plaatsen, geven we betekenis aan voorwerpen die anders zouden worden weggegooid. Bij Better Future Factory volgen we dit principe:<\/p>\n De kern van onze aanpak is het doel om het plastic afval opnieuw te gebruiken in een product dat het oorspronkelijke bedrijf kan gebruiken. Deze circulaire oplossing verandert een afvalprobleem in een mogelijkheid om grondstoffen te gebruiken. Op dezelfde manier hebben we bijvoorbeeld een gesloten kringloopsysteem ontwikkeld voor onze HEMA project<\/a>die hun oude make-upschalen omtovert in 2.000 nieuwe winkeldisplays met spikkeleffect, die nu een vleugje duurzaamheid toevoegen aan elke HEMA<\/a> winkel in Europa.<\/p>\n Een specifieke recyclagestroom verwijst naar het opzetten van een proces op maat voor een specifiek product. Dit proces is ontworpen om verschillende materialen van elkaar te scheiden, een stap die onmisbaar is voor de effectieve recycling van afgedankte kunststoffen. Tijdens onze ASN project<\/a>voerden we een nauwgezette demontage uit van ASN<\/a> digipass-lezers, waarbij de plastic onderdelen afzonderlijk werden ingezameld voor recycling om kruisbesmetting te voorkomen.<\/p>\n Een uniek model dat we gebruiken is de samenwerking met sociale werkplaatsen. Deze samenwerking voegt een laag van sociale verantwoordelijkheid toe aan onze activiteiten en verhoogt de effectiviteit van onze recycling inspanningen.<\/p>\n Als hergebruik niet haalbaar is, hebben we een back-up plan. But what if we see plastic\r\nwaste as a resource and transform it into optimised products that can be recycled\r\nafter use? Then, a sustainable product is born!\r\nImagine the following: A plastic bottle floating at the surface of the ocean, moving away from\r\nthe shore, never to be recycled but polluting the ocean and harming its inhabitants. Not a\r\nscenario that we wish for, right? But unfortunately, this is still part of reality.\r\nFrom Linear to Circular Economy\r\nCurrently, most plastic products still follow our linear economy and are being wasted at the\r\nend of their lifetime. While this has negative consequences for ecosystems and contributes\r\nto global warming, it also creates an economic loss. According to The New Plastics\r\nEconomy Report by Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 95% of the value of plastic packaging, or\r\n$80-120 billion is lost annually. To tackle the problems that waste in general is creating, the\r\nEuropean Union introduced the European Green Deal together with a new circular economy\r\naction plan in March 2020. This included a sustainable products initiative supporting the\r\ncircular design of products focussing on resource-intensive sectors such as textiles,\r\nelectronics and plastics.\r\nThe Lifecycle of a Sustainable Product\r\nIn an ideal world with a circular economy, plastic waste would not exist anymore as we know\r\nit. Plastic would have been up-cycled into products that can be recycled over and over again.\r\nThis way, the plastic stays in the loop. To end plastic pollution and make the transition to a\r\ncircular economy, we need to start with the design of the product. In fact, there are three\r\nsteps that we need to take to reach a circular plastic economy.\r\nFollow the Path to a Sustainable Plastic Product\r\nIn recent years, there has been a growing movement to eliminate all problematic and\r\nsingle-use plastic items and packaging. This means finding sustainable alternatives for\r\nthings like straws, water bottles, and grocery bags. It also means reassessing how products\r\nare made, with a focus on using less or the right kind of plastic and making products\r\nrecyclable. Additionally, all products must be free of hazardous chemicals that could harm\r\nboth the environment and humans. The first step towards a world free of non-circular plastic\r\nwaste is therefore eliminating all problematic and single-use plastics.\r\nReinvent the Product\r\nNow, the base for a circular plastic product is created, let us continue to the second step.\r\nSustainable products are made from materials that can be safely and easily returned to\r\nnature or the economy, without jeopardising human health or harming ecosystems.\r\nTherefore, sustainable product innovation is key to assure that the plastic that we do need is\r\nreusable, recyclable, or compostable. Not all materials can be combined with plastic but\r\nsustainable materials such as bamboo, wool, and cotton can be safely blended with plastic\r\nto create strong, durable, and eco-friendly products. Combining plastic with materials that\r\ncombine naturals and synthetics, would make it impossible to recycle either of them.\r\nTurn Plastic Waste Into Value\r\nTo close the loop, all plastic items that we use need to stay in the circle \u2013 without ending up\r\nin landfills and incineration \u2013 and out of the environment. At this point, new ideas for the\r\nrecycling of plastic to create sustainable products are needed. As a brand, you can get\r\ncreative about what your plastic waste should be turned into. Is it going to be new product\r\npackaging, actual products, or even recycled furniture for your office? The opportunities are\r\nalmost endless but only as long as the products are designed with circularity in mind.\r\nTransform the System\r\nWe can all do our part in making sure that plastic waste doesn\u2019t end up polluting the Earth.\r\nAnd by recycling and upcycling it into new, circular products, we can help keep this valuable\r\nresource from being wasted.\r\nIn the future, we will see more and more circular products made from recycled plastic.\r\nGarbage trucks will be replaced with recycle trucks, and building materials will be made from\r\nplastic waste. In addition, new technologies will be developed to recycle plastic into new\r\nproducts. There might even be smart garbage bins that separate our waste, so that none of\r\nthe plastic ends up in the wrong bin.
