Exploring Sustainable Packaging Scenarios
Our role in the project involved crafting various sustainable packaging scenarios to address different environmental considerations. We explored three primary options: completely biodegradable packaging, fully recyclable designs, and a combination of recyclable and reusable packaging. Using our expertise, we conducted a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) with CO2 impact for each scenario. Next to this we compared factors like customization potential, costs, investment in tooling, and overall sustainability scores, including recycling potential, end-of-life processing, and location of material sourcing.

The Chosen Concept: Monomaterial Pouch
Following an in-depth evaluation, the selected concept was a monomaterial pouch that is highly recyclable and designed to refill existing bottles and pumps. This choice reflects the most sustainable direction by utilizing consumers’ existing dispensers with a thin-walled pouch. The monomaterial pouch reduces waste, maximizes resource efficiency, and offers significant environmental benefits. Our engineering guidance ensured that this solution balanced minimal environmental impact with cost-effectiveness and consumer convenience.
